The Battle Creek Sweet Adelines have been singing in the surrounding areas for 50 years. Under the direction of Julie Zehnder, Certified director, the chorus performs a variety of music perpetuating barbershop music- one of only four forms of music native to the
Sweet Adelines is an International organization devoted to the joy of singing four-part harmony, barbershop style, and also holds competitions yearly to improve the vocal and performance aspect of the art form.
Besides competing and their annual show they also perform at festivals, fairs, nursing homes, private parties and local activities just to name a few. This past year their show was held at Binda Theater for Performing Arts on the KCC campus in
Sweet Adelines International, a nonprofit music education association for women, founded in 1945, endows its more than 28,000 members with mastery of four-part harmony, barbershop style. Performances and competitions develop members' confidence and pride in their achievements. Sweet Adelines perpetuates barbershop music-one of only four forms of music native to the United States; the others are dixieland jazz, the cowboy song and the American spiritual.
